The Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu (REGUA) www.regua.org in eastern Brazil protects one of the last stands of tropical rainforest left in the severely depleted Atlantic Rainforest, or Mata Atlântica, in Brazil.

REGUA is largely comprised of lowland humid evergreen forest but also contains montane eflin forest and important restored wetlands. The reserve contains forest covering the complete altitudinal range from 30 m to 2,000 m above sea level, making REGUA one of the most important Atlantic Forest remnants for biodiversity. So far 47 species of amphibians, 58 species of arachnids, 441 species of birds, 48 species of dragonfly and 61 species of mammals have been recorded on the Reserve, including a population of the Critically Endangered Southern Woolly Spider Monkey.

A major missing habitat for REGUA until recently was lowland wetland, including Tabebuia swamp forest.
